North Hopkins claims top two spots in District 17-A

GREENVILLE — District champion North Hopkins claimed the top two spots on the All-District 17-A girls softball team.

Senior Cayla Newkirk and junior Chastin Smiddy of North Hopkins shared the most valuable player award.

Saltillo freshman Kirsten McLane earned the newcomer of the year award and Saltillo senior Winter Johnson captured the defensive MVP honor.

Campbell senior Kelly Ross claimed the offensive MVP award.

Campbell also put senior pitcher Katie Ross, junior infielder Jessica Jaco and sophomore outfielder Krysta Reynolds on the first team and freshman infielder Janette Williams and junior outfielder Jackie Brant on the second team.

Cumby junior pitcher Lindsey Lemon, senior catcher Scarlett Tarno, junior infielder Cristen Slaughter and senior outfielder Jennifer Herron on the first team, plus junior infielder Courtney Steward, freshman infielder Savanah Neal and freshman utility player Brittney Seely on the second team.
