Bland lady golfers move into state medal contention
AUSTIN —
The Bland Lady Tigers moved into medal contention during Monday’s opening day of the University Interscholastic League Class A state golf tournament.
The Bland Lady Tigers rank fourth and their leader, Tera Wendland, ranks sixth among the medalists at the girls Class A state tournament at the Morris Williams Golf Course. The top three teams and individuals earn medals.
Bland carded a 422 for the opening round to trail Martin’s Mill (353), Baird (390) and Wellington (390).
Wendland shot an 85. Gabriella Dominguez of Chilton leads with a two-under 70, followed by Brittany Smith of Petrolia (72), Macalee Lane of Olton (81), Macy Davis from Memphis (81) and Emily Wharton of Martin’s Mill (82). Wendland is making her third straight appearance at the state tournament.
Tera’s sister, Kelady Wendland, ranks second on the Bland team with a 94. Morgan McNatt carded a 118. Emily Doonan shot a 125. Brittany Hightower fired a 143.

Amber Henderson of Leonard ranks in a tie for 27th place in the Class 2A girls tournament at the Roy Kizer Golf Course. Henderson, who is appearing at state for the third time, fired a 93.
Shelby Hardy of San Saba leads with a one-under 70, followed by Kendra Whittley of Wall (73), Meredith Kresta of Edna (74) and Kelsey Kirkpatrick of Alba-Golden.

The Lone Oak Buffaloes are in eighth place following the first round of the 2A boys tournament at Roy Kizer. They shot a 357.
Edgewood leads at 316, followed by Salado (318), Sonora (326), Muleshoe (336), Franklin (343), Troup (344) and Nocona (346).
Josh Tignor shot Lone Oak’s low round with an 86, followed by Ty Stogsdill (87), Nathan McKinney (89), Curtis Sherer (95) and Jared Carson (102).
The final rounds for the Class 2A and A tournaments are set for today.
