Area girls teams fall at state tennis meet

AUSTIN Girls doubles teams from Farmersville and Bland dropped their state quarterfinal matches on Monday at the University Interscholastic League state tennis tournament.

Farmersville’s team of Kylie Bishop and Becky Forbus lost their 2A match, 6-4, 6-2, to Chelsea Price and Skyler Wooden of traditional power Mason.

It was only the second loss of the season for Bishop and Forbus, who were district and Region II-2A champions this season.

Bland’s Mary Mainord and Megan Hockett lost their Class A match, 6-2, 6-1 to Brittany Birkenfeld and Darcy Schulte of Nazareth. Mainord and Hockett had finished second at the Region III-A tournament.

Matches at the state tennis tournament were delayed up to six hours because of rain.
