CADDO MILLS —
The weather and the timing of the 14th Annual Caddo Mills Fox Trot 5K race on Saturday morning were perfect for the overall winner, Seth Hodges of Lone Oak.
Hodges took advantage of cool temperatures and his training for the spring track and field season to clock a winning time of 17 minutes and 47 seconds for the 3.1-mile course through the streets of Caddo Mills. His time was nearly a minute and a half faster than last year’s winner, Jacob Bradley, who was Hodges’ teammate this past season on the Lone Oak High School track and field team.
“Track just ended lately so I’m still in shape,” said Hodges.
The Lone Oak sophomore was the District 15-2A champion in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs and finished sixth in the 3200 at the Region II-2A meet in Stephenville last week, clocking a 10:31.61 time.
Hodges said he liked Saturday’s weather conditions: “cool and sunny.”
He won by a minute and 40 seconds over Lone Oak teammate Caleb Womack, the boys 15-19 division winner.
Former Caddo Mills 5K winner Ronnie Bardin of Forney claimed the men’s masters title at 20:04.
John Nance, who’s won a number of 5K races in Hunt County, captured the men’s 60-64 at 22:45.
Kendra Treadway of Caddo Mills was the first female finisher with a 23:42.
Debbie Schmuck from Corinth was the women’s masters champion at 32:09.
The event was part of the Fox Fest celebration in Caddo Mills.
