Caddo Mills Desmond Brigham heads to state

STEPHENVILLE — An injured left knee hasn’t prevented Caddo Mills senior Desmond Brigham from advancing to the state meet for the third straight year in the high jump.

Brigham, who is expecting to have surgery done on the knee, cleared 6 feet 4 inches to win the Region II-2A title at Tarleton State.

“It’s really not bothering him,” said Caddo Mills coach Jeff Norris. “He had three good attempts at 6-6. He just came up a little short. He jumped like he’s never really missed a beat.”

Brigham cleared 6-6 at state as a sophomore in 2006 to finish second and was third last year after clearing 6-5.

Brigham, who’s also an all-state basketball and football player, has signed with the University of North Texas to play football.

His Caddo Mills teammate Nathan Jeffery finished third in the 100-meter dash at regional, clocking a time of 11.33 seconds.
