Hawks pound Lions, 21-1, in season finale

GREENVILLE — Sean Graves hit for the cycle as the Rockwall-Heath Hawks pounded out a 12-1 decision over Greenville in the season baseball finale for both teams on Tuesday night at John Mason Field.

Graves singled in the first, doubled in the second, ripped a two-run triple in the fourth and slugged a two-run homer to left field in the seventh to finish with four hits and four runs batted in.

The Hawks’ left fielder wasn’t the only heavy hitter in the Hawks’ lineup. Shortstop Zach Frasier slugged two homers, including a two-run shot in the first and a solo homer to lead off the fifth.

Catcher Drew Benefield slugged a solo homer to lead off the third.

Rockwall-Heath wound up with 16 hits off two Greenville pitchers, who combined for only two strikeouts.

James Baune, recently promoted from the junior varsity, threw five innings of hitless baseball before Greenville’s Logan Sharkey broke up the no-hitter with a line shot up the middle for a single in the sixth. Sharkey took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on Anthony Yost’s groundout and scored on a balk for Greenville’s only run.

Baune allowed two walks and struck out 11.

Reliever Jace Hudson closed out the win for the Hawks, walking one and striking out three in the bottom of the seventh.

Greenville finished the season with a 5-18 record and 3-11 mark in District 10-4A.

The Hawks wound up 16-7 and 8-6.

Greenville recognized seniors Justin DeGarso, Stephen Heard, Chance Moore, Klayton Moore, Logan Sharkey, Steven Skinner and Anthony Yost in pregame ceremonies.
