Greenville Christian School completed a sweep over Carrollton Prince of Peace and also locked up a baseball playoff berth with an 8-5 victory on Thursday at Eagle Field.
The Eagles squared their district record at 2-2 with their second win over Prince of Peace in the last three days. GCS also won 18-9 in Carrollton on Tuesday.
GCS coach Larry Uland had plenty to smile about after watching the Eagles score eight runs off seven hits.
“It’s the best game we’ve played this year,” said Uland, whose Eagles are now 2-5 for the season. “We’ve improved in the last three games. We’ve made major improvements.”
Brandon Fauley and Blake Caspari both slapped two hits to spark the victorious Eagles. Tanner Barnes ripped a double. Brothers Kyle Rook and Josh Rook both tallied one hit.
Jake Schumann picked up the mound win, allowing five hits and two runs in five innings of relief in support of the starter Fauley. Schumann walked five and fanned four.
Prince of Peace led 3-0 in the third before the Eagles rallied with three runs in the third to tie it. GCS grabbed the lead with a five-run fourth inning.
The Eagles’ next game is tentatively set for Tuesday against Trenton in a non-district contest.
The Eagles’ schedule this season has been limited due to rainouts and some tournament cancelations.
