Continental Baseball League to play exhibition game

GREENVILLE — Affordable professional baseball, where a family of four can attend a game and eat, drink at a reasonable cost is coming to the area on Saturday, May 17, as the Continental Baseball League announced it will stage an exhibition game with the Texarkana Gunslingers facing the McKinney Blue Thunder at Greenville High School’s John Mason Field at 7 p.m.

The event will be titled the “Greenville Pro Baseball Classic.” Tickets will be $6 and parking is free.

“Greenville has an incredible pro baseball history, rich in tradition,” noted Ron Baron, founder and president of the CBL, which has its headquarters in Addison. “We want to showcase our league and our family-friendly environment to Greenville.

“We want to give them a first-hand look at how affordable we are, and how much fun and entertainment we can bring to the community,” said Baron.

The Gunslingers’ manager is former Chicago Cub World Series pitcher Steve Trout. The Blue Thunder manager is former Texas Ranger Curtis Wilkerson.

In addition to the Texarkana Gunslingers and McKinney Blue Thunder, the other two CBL teams are the Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs and Houston Bay Area Toros.

Tickets for the 2008 Greenville Baseball Classic can be purchased at John Mason Field prior to game time on May 17.
