Pickup used in fatal hit-and-run found

GREENVILLE — A pickup truck which was reported to have fled the scene of a fatal traffic accident near Rockwall has been located.

Authorities were still searching Friday for the driver of the Ford F-150, who was believed to have caused the three-vehicle crash on State Highway 276 in which one person was killed and four others injured.

Lt. David Davis with the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office said the pickup was found Thursday night.

“We have identified the suspect who is not yet in custody, but we are following several leads,” Davis said.

The driver was reported to have rammed the pickup into the back of a Toyota Yaris driven by Kenton William Klutts, 49, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, at the intersection of Sunny Circle, not far from his residence.

The accident occurred at around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday. Klutts was eastbound and had slowed to make a turn north onto Sunny Circle when his vehicle was struck from behind and forced into the oncoming westbound traffic, where the Yaris struck a Dodge minivan head-on.

Two adults and two children inside the van were transported to Baylor Hospital, where all were treated and released with the exception of the driver, who suffered a broken leg.

The pickup didn’t stop at the scene and was last observed heading eastbound on Highway 276.

Anyone who may have information about the accident is being asked to contact the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office  at 972-204-7001.
