Taming one Mella Monster

Just sitting here, glad winter is officially over ...

— As I have mentioned previously Vida, My Wife and the Divine Diva of Domestic Daycare at the Kellar Estate, operates the Miss Vida’s Playtime on the ground floor of the Estate. This has attracted a wide assortment of little ones over the years, all of whom we have grown to love.

Of late, one of the temporary tenants is Carmella, better known around the Estate as Mella, Mella Mella or ... the Mella Monster. Mella is the daughter of Vida’s pal and softball teammate Amy.

For the longest time, Mella and I did not get along. It wasn’t my fault as I tried to be as friendly as I could. I’d say hello to Mella each morning and be as pleasant as possible. But where all of the other daycare kids and I would bond pretty instantly, Mella would just glare at me whenever I came near her.

And when I say glare, that is exactly what I mean. She not only would look, Mella would fix her gaze upon me as soon I came near and then would focus her attention on me for as long as I stayed in the same room. While Mella would laugh and coo and smile with Vida, I would always get the same icy stare.

This went on until one morning I was recruited to assist Vida with the kids and it fell upon me to feed Mella her favorite yogurt breakfast. At first Mella greeted me with suspicion as I attempted to give her a spoonful. But after taking one bite, and I guess coming to the conclusion I was not some nefarious villian out to cause her demise, Mella began gobbling it up. Shortly thereafter, she actually began to smile and laugh with me.

These days, Mella smiles at me as soon as Amy drops her off and we get along just fine.

In fact, Mella has such a personality that she is the favorite of all of the other daycare kids. When Amy walks in the door with Carmella in her carrier, everyone starts chanting “Mella! Mella! Mella!” Just last week, Mella started walking, which will make it easier for her to hang with her two best friends at the daycare, “Josie Josie” and “Livvy”, which is short for Olivia.

And when I help Vida out, I make sure and have that yogurt ready. The last thing I need is to be the focus of any more “Mella Monster” stares, now that she is all ambulatory and everything ...

— Vida just wanted me to give a shout out here to the folks at Euphoria Medical Spa in Greenville. Being a Man of the Male Gender, for Valentine’s Day I obtained a gift certificate from there, so Vida could enjoy a treatment related to Women of the Female Gender. Vida loved it and came back to the Estate commenting on the service she received.

I also have to note they went above and beyond in helping me get the gift certificate in the first place, so thumbs up and four stars all around. As Mother’s Day is approaching, it is likely both myself and Vida will have an opportunity to call upon them again.

After all, Vida deserves as much pampering as she can get, especially after being in charge of Mella Mella and the other daycare kids every day ...

Just a thought ...
