Good people still around

To the editor:

On Oct. 3, 2008, I was driving through Greenville stopping at an Exxon across from the Wal-Mart store. On the pump there was a sign telling me I needed to prepay so I go into the store telling the attendant I wanted to fill up with gas and that I would not know what I should pay her.

She told me to leave my driver's license with her and I could pay later. I filled my car and started writing out a check for the amount when she told me she could not take checks. I do not carry more than $20 or a credit card and was trying to come up with an idea of how I was going to manage this.

There was NO sign saying they did not accept checks. A young man stepped up and asked the lady how much I owed, she told him and he took out his billfold and paid. I made the check out to him, but he has never cashed the check.

His first name is Noel but I have forgotten the last. Maybe he lost the check, and if he did I would gladly send another to replace it. I especially want to thank him for being so nice. Good people do still exist.
