Run-off elections for two major political races are just around the corner. Incumbents Ralph Hall (U.S. Representative for House District 4) and Dr. Bob Deuell (State Senator for State District 2) are facing off against challengers John Ratcliffe and Bob Hall, respectively, after failing to receive 50 percent or more of the vote in the March primary election.

Military reduction plan ill-conceived
According to a plan recently announced by the United States Defense Department, active-duty members of the Army would be reduced from 520,000 to 450,000-440,000; the Army National Guard would shrink from 355,000 to 335,000; and the Army Reserves would reduce their numbers from 205,000 to 195,000, for a total reduction of approximately 100,000 individuals.
