COMMERCE — Dr. Archie D. Brock, 80, of Commerce died Nov. 20, 2013, at Las Colinas Medical Center in Irving. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, Commerce. Dr. Jeff Johnson will officiate.

Commerce Funeral Home of Commerce is in charge of arrangements.

Born Dec. 14, 1932, in Crescent, Okla., Archie was the son of Archie and Alveretta May Brock. He married Lela Highfill Brock on Aug. 31, 1957.

Archie received his PhD from Virginia Tech in statistics in 1968. He moved his family to Commerce where he taught in the Math Department at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University-Commerce, until his retirement. The flags will fly at half-staff Monday in his honor at the University. After his retirement he volunteered his time at the Children’s Museum and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lela of Commerce; daughters Jennifer Claxton (Clif) of Royse City, Janet Wasson (Bryan) of Grapevine and Janie Akers of Allen; a sister, Ellen Kilcrease (Jake) of Gordonville; four grandchildren, Josh and Jeremiah Wasson and Caleb and Hannah Akers; many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Archie had a wonderful sense of humor, he loved his Lord, he loved to sing and he loved his friends. He will truly be missed by many.
