Wayne Walker

BONHAM — Funeral services for Donald Wayne Walker Jr., 47, of Bailey will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bonham High School gym with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Rev. Lynn Tyson, Sheriff Donny Foster, and Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Chris Nelson will officiate the service.

Interment will follow at Arledge Ridge Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.

Deputy Walker passed away Nov. 20, 2013, at Medical Center of Plano.

Wayne Walker was born in Lawton, Okla., on March 13, 1966, to Donald Wayne Walker Sr. and Alice (Hiatt) Walker.

 He was a 1984 graduate of Wolfe City High School. Wayne married Doris (Simpson) Walker on Sept. 28, 1991, in Leonard. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Ashley 681, of Bailey and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bailey.

Wayne attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received a bachelor degree in criminal justice; he graduated from Texoma Regional Police Academy.

 He began his law enforcement career serving with Ladonia, Leonard and Trenton Police departments from 1988 to 1994. In 1994 he began serving his 17-year career with the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office where he presently served as an investigator.

He is survived by his mother, Alice Walker of Bailey; wife Doris Walker of Bailey; sister Debbie Fox and husband Kerry of Dodd City; sister Jessica Trammell and husband Jerry of Greenville; nieces Whitney Fox, and Ashley Simpson; and nephews Danny Casey, David Warren, and John Warren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Walker Sr., and niece Emily Hathcock.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Collin County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be John Warren, David Warren, Rusty Warren, Danny Casey, Clifton Daniels, Jerry Trammell, Kerry Fox, Charlee Crutcher, Doug Haggard, and members of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Wayne Walker Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship Fund at Fannin Bank 230 East 3rd Bonham, 75418.
