O. A. (Orville Alva) Collins was born to Mary Ellen (Eskew) Collins and Ernest David Collins in Senath, Missouri on Sept. 18, 1921. He walked into the hands of the Lord on Oct. 3, 2012, at 91 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and eldest son Larry Collins Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Reba Lee Collins of Greenville; his daughters, Barbara Cox of Suwanee, Ga., Yvonne Collins of Bokchito, Okla., and son Bryan Collins of Grand Prairie; and his sister, Ernestine O’Neal of St. Louis, Mo.
He was the proud father of four children and Grandpa to 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren and counting.
O.A. married the love of his life, Reba Lee Brooks, on Aug. 3, 1950, in Melbourne, Ark. They raised their family and enjoyed 62 full and wonderful years.
O.A proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and, following the war, in the United States Army of Occupation in Germany. He retired from the National Life Insurance Company and became self-employed. He was a member of the American Legion “Otho Morgan” Post 17 of Greenville. He was an avid supporter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
He faithfully worshiped his Savior as a member of “The House of Prayer Church” of Greenville.
O.A. loved to walk his land, raise his Holstein heifers, till and tend his garden and share his great love of ”country” life with friends, but mostly with his family.
His children shall miss his sense of humor and his love of the land, but most of all his unbelievable strength.
His like shall not pass this way again.
For any who would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to his church, The House of Prayer.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Lynch Funeral Service chapel in Greenville. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Dallas.
