GREENVILLE — Naxey Earl Davis, 77, of Celeste passed away Oct. 29, 2013, at his home.

A memorial service is at 2 p.m. today in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Josh Nichols officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. today until service time.

Born Nov. 25, 1935, in Snyder, Naxey was the son of George H. and Geraldine (Woolever) Davis. He taught school in Coolidge, Ariz., and was a teacher and head football coach in Carlsbad, N.M., before becoming a building contractor in Highland Park and surrounding area.

His survivors include a son, Ned Thurmond and wife Annette of Southlake; daughters Jenny Lynn Dungan and husband John of Tulsa, Okla., Jodet Bindel and husband Pete of California, and Zebrah Jahnke and husband Jeff of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Belinda Arey of Greenville; and niece Jennifer Evanko and husband George of Leonard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry A. Davis.
