‘Maggie’ Goynes

GREENVILLE — Madeleine “Maggie” Goynes went to be with our Lord and Savior on Aug. 10, 2013, at Klinkum Garmish-Partenkirchen Hospital in Bavaria, Germany.

Maggie was born Sept. 9, 1963, in Germany. She married Norris Goynes while he was stationed in Germany and accompanied him to the United States. The family returned to Germany to live in 2004.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; their children, Norris Goynes Jr., JacQueline Goynes, Michelle Goynes and Sarafina (Sarah) Goynes; two grandchildren, Jarell Goynes and Alesha Zahler; stepchildren Dewayne Goynes, LaCondra Payne and Gwendolyn Goynes; her mother, Teresa Massmann; brother Bunny Massmann; sisters Monica and Rosemary Massmann and Tine Atlas, all of Germany; her mother-in-law, Margie Wright; brothers-in-law Danny (Shirley) Goynes, Howard (Claudia) Wright, and Johnny (Demetrice) Wright; sisters-in-law Carolyn (Eddie) Davis, Opal Shepherd, Virginia (John) Reed, Millie (Buck) Edwards, Doris (Ernest) Randle, Cynthia Wright, Linda (Michael) Collier; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother-in-law, Millie (Mama Love) Williams, and father-in-law Leroy “Buster” Wright.

Maggie was a member of Clark Street Christian Church while living in Greenville.

A memorial service will be held Monday in Bavaria, Germany, and a candlelight service celebrating her life will be held in Greenville at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at 3118 Cornelia Street.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home of Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
