Ray Sylvan Goodman, 87-year-old Celeste resident, passed away Dec. 7, 2013, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
His funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral chapel at Leonard. Rev. Jay Henderson will officiate. Interment will follow at the Lane Cemetery west of Celeste.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ray was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Dallas. He was the son of Allen Kern Goodman and Lee Oma Gilcrease. On June 30, 1950, he married Frances Gay in Dallas.
Ray served his country well in the United States Navy during World War II as a boatsman mate. He worked in construction for many years with Sikes Construction Company in Dallas.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Celeste. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, raising Doberman dogs, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Goodman, and sisters
Frances E. Reinle, Dorothy Ballard, and Maureen Bryan.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Gay Goodman; one sister, Allene Wells; and several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be W.E. LaFavers, Andrew Gay, Billy Lindsey, Jason Lindsey, Wesley Russell and Charlie Gatlin. Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Gay.
