Steve Guffey

Steve Lake Guffey, 50, of Greenville, formerly of Alton, Mo., died July 5. 2014, at Medical Center of Plano. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, in the Campbell High School gymnasium with Glen Fields, Greg Williams and Rev. Cary Kinnaird officiating and a slide presentation by Kris Crews.

Born Feb. 4, 1964, in Marshall, Coach Guffey was the son of Wayne Guffey and Lovie Manker Guffey. He was an educator and coach at Campbell High School and a Southern Baptist.

He had received numerous Coach of the Year Awards, Texas High School Association Award for 400 wins, and was named to the Fannin County Hall of Fame Team as a coach of Fannindel.

Survivors include his parents, Wayne and Lovie Guffey of Mammoth Spring, Ark.; brother Randy Guffey of Mammoth Spring, Ark.; sisters Debra Davis and spouse Steve and daughter Hailey of Eleele, Hawaii, and Trisha Colombo and spouse Russ of Willow Springs, Mo.; nieces Crystal Jackson and son Cameron Canant and daughter Nevaeh of Mammoth Spring, Ark., Lindsey Canant of Boston, Mass., and Erika Lembke of Colorado; nephew Kurt Lembke and spouse Kate and son James of Overland Park, Kan.; and a host of loving friends and students.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fannie and Fon Guffey and Dorothy and Edward Manker.

Honorary pallbearers will be all his coaching colleagues, hunting and fishing buddies and all the athletes he has coached.

The family requests memorials be send to the American Diabetes Association for educational purposes or presented to Campbell school system for educational programs on diabetes.
