Mary Cole

GREENVILLE — Mary J. Cole was born Aug. 31, 1940, in DeKalb to the late Henry and Emma Green Terry. She attended Marvin Pine High School in DeKalb and graduated in 1957. In 1964 she married Walter Jackson and relocated to Farmersville. Two years later she moved to Greenville, making it her permanent place of residence. She dedicated her life to Christ in 1972 and was a faithful member of Pilgrim Tabernacle Church of Deliverance. She served on the Usher Board, Women’s Auxiliary Board and took on numerous other tasks within the church. She was an employee of Rubbermaid, retiring in 1994. Mary later became a caregiver because she loved helping others and had no problem with giving. Mary was an exceptional woman of God, kind-hearted and loving with an unpretentious spirit. To know her was to love her. She loved ministering to family, friends, co-workers and strangers, putting them on the correct path to righteousness. Mary was a true soldier serving in the Army of the Lord. Mary had six biological children, but in her 42 years at Pilgrim Tabernacle, she gained a host of children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Emma Green Terry; a son, Fredrick Jerome Jackson; two sisters, Bobbie Sanders and Mary Joyce Luke; and one brother, James Luke.

She leaves to cherish her treasurable memoirs two daughters, Sharon D. Giddens of Greenville and Cassandra R. Williams of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Dennis G. Terry Sr., Lonzo I. Jackson and Patrick T. Jackson, all of Greenville; adopted daughter Sherry Lewis of Mesquite; a sister, Anna Faye Ashby (Lloyd) of Greenville; five brothers, R.L. Terry (Joe) of Sherman, Charles Luke (Margie Faye) of Terrell, Willie Luke (Fay) of Royse City, Teallie Luke (Alice) of Dallas and Aaron Luke (Melba) of DeKalb; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Her Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church, 2109 Wesley in Greenville.
