Richard Dickey

Richard Dickey, 90, of Campbell passed away May 1, 2014, at the Medical Center of McKinney. He will be laid to rest at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill. 

Born Nov. 29, 1923, in Lansing, Mich., he was the third child of seven to Francis Russell and Clarice Laura Williams Dickey. He married Lanore Sigrid Thompson on March 2, 1946, in Chicago, Ill.

Richard served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. As a rifleman/paratrooper, he was awarded many badges and stars including four overseas service bars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, with three bronze battle stars, Philippine Liberation ribbon, with two bronze stars, distinguished unit badge, WWII Victory Medal, good conduct medal, parachutist’s badge, one bronze arrowhead, and a Purple Heart Medal.

He worked many years in the steel yards and then worked several more years as a custodian for a middle school in Illinois, until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Campbell.

His hobbies included working on puzzles, building model airplanes, and playing with his seven dogs that were all rescued. He also enjoyed eating out with his sister and friends.

Richard is survived by his sister, Peggie Morgan of Campbell; nephews Patrick Moss, Bill Morgan, Jack Morgan and Martin Morgan, all of Washington; Guy Morgan, John Lechman of California, Charles Dickey of Florida, and Dennis Dickey of Georgia; nieces Susan Holmes of Washington, Lee Ann Bruning, and Patty Smith of California; numerous grandnieces and nephews; and his two dogs, Chrissy and Patrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Joseph Novak; wife; an infant sister, Ruth Naoma Dickey; sisters Katherine Lechman, Patricia Dickey and Treacile Dickey; and one brother, Vernell Dickey.
