Richard Groene

Richard Henry Groene was born Nov. 25, 1927, to Stanley and Leta Groene in Columbus, Ohio. He passed away April 2, 2014, at home in Garland.

Richard was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He then started his education at Purdue University in Indiana and received his bachelor’s degree in 1951 and master’s degree in 1952 in electrical engineering.

Richard was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu Association, honorary fraternities for engineers.

He married Mary Jane Perry in 1950 in Indianapolis, Ind. They moved to Dallas where Richard went to work for LTV and then E-Systems in Greenville (now L-3). He then started a second career at Parkland Hospital and retired in 1998.

Richard was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration where he enjoyed serving as an usher for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Groene; his daughter, Barbara Booth (spouse Danny) of Terrell; daughter Karen Trotter (spouse Roy) of Ponte Vedra, Fla., son Mark Groene of Frisco; granddaughters Devin Anne Trotter of Livingston and Laura Guzman (spouse Ramon); great-grandchildren Nathan, Natalie and Nadia of Garland; and his brother, Donald Groene (spouse Jody) of Indianapolis, Ind.

Memorial mass will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Road in Dallas.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration.
