Patrick Ferguson

Former Greenville resident Patrick McHugh Ferguson, 57, of Blairsville, Ga., died unexpectedly April 13, 2013.

He was born May 11, 1955, in Oakland, Calif., to John C. “Jack” Ferguson and Carol Anderson Ferguson.

The family moved to Greenville in 1965, and he attended Bowie Elementary, Greenville Junior High, and graduated from Greenville High School in 1973, where he was a proud member of the GHS Marching Band under the direction of Bob Cartwright.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., and attended “A” school in Pensacola, Fla. He was a cryptologic technician. After leaving the Navy, he attended Texas A&M University in College Station, and was a member of the Corps of Cadets.

He has been a software developer for more than 30 years. At the time of his death he was employed by Reynolds and Reynolds.

Patrick married the former Madge Whitley on April 17, 1993, in Atlanta, Ga.

He was an avid reader and a student of history. He loved to sail, and he was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed camping activities with his son.

He is survived by his wife of Blairsville, Ga.; son Maxfield; his mother, Carol Ferguson of Greenville; three brothers, Kevin Ferguson of Garland, Daniel Ferguson of Greenville and Brian Ferguson of Chicago, Ill.; and a sister, Katherine Ferguson of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his father in February 2010, and his grandparents, J.J. and Helen Ferguson of Chicago and Bert and Esther Anderson of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Rosary is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at St. William’s Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Memoryland Memorial Park.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
