Garland Clemons

Garland Franklin Clemons, 80, of Caddo Mills passed away May 6, 2014.

He was born to parents Jep Tamblin Clemons and Zelma Ezell Clemons in Silver Valley, Texas, on May 17, 1933. Garland married Betty Opal Garrison Greer on Feb. 25, 1985. He retired from MCI in 1999.

As a young man, Garland accomplished all ranks of the Cub Scouts of America and obtained the Webelos before entering the Boy Scouts of America. He went on to receive the Eagle Scouts award with two oak clusters.

He attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood where he was also a member of the Brownwood First Baptist Church. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Chapter, Council and Commandry of the York Rite, the Scottish Rite, the Eastern Star, Shriners International, and the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks, USA.

 He was past president of the Brownwood Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Brownwood Amateur Radio League(call No. K5VGY), the Hella Shrine Greeters Association, the Texas State Greeters Shrine Association and the Garland Shrine Club.

He was past High Priest of the Brownwood Chapter, thrice Illustrious Master of the Brownwood Council and past Commander of the Brownwood Commandary all of the York Rite.

He was Chief (Cloud Chaser) of the Neches Tribe of the Tajas Cherokee Nation. He always said, “My goal in life is to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.”

He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Dee Donna Greer; stepdaughters Karen Wells and husband David, Lucy Robinson and Lois Greer; grandchildren Michael Jason Murphy and wife Holley of Cleburne, Heather Fuhlhage and husband Aaron, and Kenny Robinson and Kristina Robinson, all of Denver, Colo.; and great-grandchildren Parker Murphy, Ian Murphy and Joseph Murphy, all of Cleburne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and daughter Deana Lynn Spiller.

His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lynch Funeral Home in Caddo Mills.
