'Bill' Carter


— W.C. “Bill” Carter, 96, of Greenville passed away June 15, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Gandy officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. 

Visitation will be from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bill was born March 20, 1917, in the Wieland Community to John Henry and Lestie Lorraine (Thompson) Carter. He married Ethel Edna Randall Goins in October 1969.

Bill was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. with the 40th Airlift Squadron and 317th Airlift Group. He retired from the Texas Youth Council (State of Texas) in 1980. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Vessel and husband Kenneth and Tana Quaid; grandchildren Lisa Smith, Dennis Vessel, Todd Vessel, Lynne Pedigo, Jill Thibault, Brandy Barnett, and Buddy Quaid; numerous great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roy Carter and Hilton Carter, and sisters Glenna Mozell Scroggins and Hazel Pauline Greer.

Pallbearers will be Mark Stoute, Jim Eddy, Dewayne Scroggins, and Billy Scroggins.
