On the morning of May 3, 2013, Robert Cleghorn Jr. passed peacefully from this world into God’s Kingdom and the loving arms of his wife, son, and daughter.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with burial to follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born May 6, 1929, in Belzoni, Miss. to Robert Cleghorn Sr. and Etta Irene Evans. On June 22, 1962, he married Virginia D. Mauldin in Durant, Okla.
He proudly served his country in the Army and Air Force before returning to Greenville to assist with the family cemetery services. He later would work for an aluminum plant in Rockwall before retiring as a custodian for Greenville ISD.
Robert will also be remembered as the friendly attendant at a local car wash where he worked until he had to quit due to his health.
Robert is survived by his daughter-in-law, Tammy Cleghorn of Greenville; son-in-law, Scott Mattingly of Garland; brother, Curtis Cleghorn and wife Martha of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Margaret McDonald of Walnut, Miss., Vergie Pearl Abels of Sallis, Miss.; grandchildren, Rachel Mattingly of Dallas, Nathan Mattingly of Garland; niece, Teresa Puroff and husband John of Garland, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Kelly Mattingly; and son, Robert Cleghorn III.
Pallabearers will be Rambo Aguliar, Mickey Cook, Johnny Lewis, Clifford Mauldin, Willie B. McCrory and John Puroff. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Howard, Jody Mauldin, Nathan Mattingly, Mike Mauldin, and Richard Tardell.
