Odell Birmingham


GREENVILLE — Odell Birmingham, 68, of Greenville passed away Aug. 22, 2013, at Hunt Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Jerry Ray Bevill officiating. A Masonic graveside will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. 

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born Feb. 2, 1945, in Sulphur Springs, Odell was the son of Joseph “Joe” Means and Willie (Clark) Birmingham. On Feb. 18, 1984, he married Marion Jacobs Jones.

He was employed as a salesman for Southland Building Materials and later self-employed selling building supplies.

After retirement he worked part-time for White’s Fence Company. He was a member of Lamar Baptist Church (now Family Fellowship). Odell was a member of the Masonic Lodge 1440 of Emory. He was very proud of this accomplishment as it required a lot of memory work.

 He was an avid fisherman and hunter, especially enjoying deer hunting. 

His survivors include his wife of Greenville; son Geron Dale Birmingham and wife Doris of Garland; stepsons Bobby Wayne Brumley and wife Alicia of Campbell and Eddie Wade Jones and wife Melandie of Greenville; grandchildren Ryan, Lane and Erika Birmingham; stepgrandchildren Cutter, Hadley and Leddi Brumley, and Everlee and Moxie Jones; sister Laura Faye White and husband Monty of Greenville; sisters-in-law Phyllis Birmingham of Scurry and Ava Jean Birmingham of Garland; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and –nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe (Talmadge) Birmingham and Ray Birmingham; sister Claudene Bevill; and brother-in-law J.L. Bevill.

Pallbearers will be Con, Caleb, Gideon, Noah, Elijah, Micah, and Enoch Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren Ryan, Lane, and Erika Birmingham, Cutter, Hadley, and Leddi Brumley, and Everlee and Moxie Jones.
