David Gibbs

— David Olan Gibbs, 69, of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior Oct. 26, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services celebrating David’s life are at 11 a.m. today at Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan with Robert Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Royse City Cemetery.

Pallbearers for David’s service will be Michael Gibbs, Gregg McQuien, Gordon McQuien, Clifton Brooks, Brandon Gibbs, Brent West, Chris Cole, Michael Phariss and James Simmons.

David was born Aug. 15, 1944, in Royse City, the son of the late Olan Gibbs and Mildred Petty Corman. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Don Allen Gibbs, on Aug. 23, 2013, and by his stepfather, Hugh Corman. He was raised in Royse City, then later in Garland.

He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. After his discharge, he returned home and married the love of his life, Sue Glasscock, on Dec. 14, 1968; and they made their home in Quinlan where David owned and operated David’s Transmission (now Ryan’s Transmission) for many years.

David was a skilled welder and sculptor; he had won several awards for his creations at the Texas State Fair. He and his family were well known on the local stock car circuit for many years, and he was an avid cat fisherman and enjoyed watching his favorite NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson.

He is loved and will be missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Sue Gibbs; a son, David Gibbs of Texarkana, Ark.; daughter Tracy Hernandez and husband Albert of Quinlan; grandchildren Seth, Anica and Ariel; great-grandchild Trinity; a brother, Martin Gibbs and wife Cathy of Quinlan; sisters Brenda Moore of Denton, Carolyn Odom of Yantis, Sue Harper and husband Gary of Denton, LuJuana Kegel of Point and Montra Land and husband Phillip of Point; and several nieces and nephews.
