Lula Coleman

Lula Coleman, 67, of Dallas passed away Oct. 13, 2013, in Dallas. Her homegoing celebration will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Praise Temple Christian Fellowship Church in Pleasant Grove with the Rev. Donald Washington officiating and Rev. Arlene Tasby as eulogist.

A wake is from 7 to 10 p.m. today at the Starlight Gospel Church in Garland.

Spears Funeral Home in Dallas is in charge of arrangements.

Lula was born April 27, 1946, in Jefferson to Earnest and Mattie Scott Wilson. In 1954 the family moved to Floyd. Lula united with Mount Elem Baptist Church. She graduated from St. Paul High School in Neylandville in 1965.

Lula began her ministry while she was still in high school; and after graduation she started evangelizing, traveling and running revivals.

She was a loving and caring individual who loved God and loved to preach His word. She was a generous giver of gifts, her time and talents. She was also a true prayer intercessor and a great encourager — winning many souls to Christ.

Lula traveled and sang with her siblings in a gospel group known as the Starlight Gospel Singers for more than 40 years until the group disbanded.

Lula was employed by various companies, including Intercontinental in Garland and Texas Instruments in Dallas. Later she became a domestic worker for a doctor and his wife for many years.

On June 22, 1974, Lula married Rev. Robert Lee Coleman Sr., and to this union three children were born.

Lula was a faithful member of Nondenominational Deliverance Church of Dallas. She was the church musician and played the guitar at the church until her health failed and God called her home.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving husband; one son, Robert Coleman Jr. (Felecia) of Irving; two daughters, Christy Coleman and Wanda Coleman, both of Dallas; two grandsons, Langston Coleman Simpson and Christopher Simpson III, both of Dallas; three brothers, Ray Wilson of McKinney, Smith Wilson (Sandra) of Garland and George Wilson of Greenville; four sisters, Apostle Rosetta Canady, Minister Myrtle Wilson, Evangelist Minnie Wilson and Mary Williams (Willie), all of Greenville; mother-in-law Ethell Jackson of Dallas; three brothers-in-law, Isaac Jackon (Dovie) and Cenelle Jackson (Lula), all of Austin, and Leonard Jackson of Dallas; one sister-in-law, Ethel Mae Jackson of Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
