Daphne Bearding

CADDO MILLS — Daphne “Nanny” Bearding went home to be with her Lord and Savior early on the morning of Sept. 8, 2013, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born April 22, 1919, in Josephine, Texas. She married the love of her life, Roscoe “Rusty” Bearding in February 1940, and he preceded her in death in December 1993. She was also preceded in death by her son- in-law, Jackie Tucker in 1991.

Daphne was the eighth of 13 children born to Claude and Elizabeth Pope. She is survived by two sisters, Billie Jo Holt, Caddo Mills and Elsie Green, Lubbock.

Daph and Rusty lived their married life in the Caddo Mills area where she helped her husband farm for many years before moving to “town.”

She was baptized in the Baptist Church at Josephine at an early age. She moved her membership to the Methodist Church with her husband where she taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She and Rusty were charter members of the Faith Bible Church and spent many hours building the original church. Later in life when she could no longer drive herself to church, she moved her membership to Paradise Baptist Church and attended there with her family for several years.

Daphne, “Nanny,” as many children called her, ran a day care for several years and had many friends that she babysat.

She made many special memories with these children and their families. When her children and grandchildren were growing up, she opened up her home and heart to many of their friends. and they loved calling her Nanny as well.

She worked for Centennial Steel for a time and made a multitude of friends with all that worked there and people who stopped by.

She is survived by three children, Brenda Groves and husband Michael of Royse City, Phyllis Tucker Regan and husband James of Caddo Mills, and Marsha Nelson and husband, Jimmy of Caddo Mills. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Kim Stephens and husband Keith, Jason Tucker and wife Tammy, Jacqueline McGuyer and husband Kevin, Jennifer Dickens and husband Tony, Jill Smith and friend Riley, and Jeffery Nelson. She is also survived by the following great-grandchildren: Ashley Coonrod and Ben, Trey Stephens, Brianna Groves, Savannah Groves, Aubrey Tucker, Anna Tucker, Lauren Ross, Garrett McGuyer, Taren Bowen and Chase, Tia Pena, Emma Dickens, Ethan Dickens, Alyssa Nelson, Jaxson Nelson, and Presley Nelson. She also was blessed to have the following great-great-grandchildren: Yeardley Coonrod, Graham Coonrod, and Harper Bowen.

A memorial and “home going” celebration of Nanny’s life will be today at 10 a.m. at the Lynch Funeral Home in Caddo Mills and led by Glen Steed. There will be music by friends.
