Norbert Blakely passed away Nov. 1, 2013.
He was born under the parentage of Melvin and Rosie Blakely on Dec. 22, 1956, in Greenville. He received his education through the local school system. In 2012, he began further education through Paris Junior College.
He enlisted in the Army in 1978 and earned an honorable discharge in 1984 after six years and six months of service.
Norbert was a man of faith, and was a loyal member of Pilgrim Tabernacle Church of Deliverance of Greenville, under the leadership of Elder Wesley D. Pierce for over 30 years, playing the lead guitar and keyboard.
He recently decided to move his membership to Community Church of God in Christ, also of Greenville, under the leadership of Superintendent Michael H. Watson, where he remained until God called him home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Rosie Blakely.
Left to cherish his memories forever are his wife, Arletha (Lacey) Blakely; two sons, Norbert Jr and Antwan Blakely; two daughters, Alexandria and Gwendolyn Blakely all of Greenville; siblings, Melvin, Jr. (Gertrude) Blakely, Timmy (Mary) Blakely, Alisha Smith, Tyson Davis and Tarvis Traylor, all of Greenville; Kelvin (Sonia) Blakely of Sulphur Springs, and Kim Broussard (Henry) of Lawton, Okla.; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends.
Homegoing services will be Saturday at 11 a.m, at Price Temple C.O.G.I.C. with Pastor Henry Marines officiating and Superintendent Michael H. Watson as eulogist. Burial will follow at Grundy Memorial Park. Visitation is today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Grace & Mercy-Grundy Funeral Home.
