Jane Evelyn Lenington, 82, passed away at her home in Campbell on Nov. 3, 2013.
Jane was born in Texarkana, Ark., on Dec. 27, 1930, to John and Evelyn Hunter Greenwood. Jane graduated from high school in Texarkana, earned a B.S. in nutrition from Iowa State and an M.A. from SMU in Dallas. She married Albert O. Lenington, “Big Al,” in 1959; they raised two boys in Dallas.
Jane worked in Food Services at Dallas ISD for more than 25 years and was the assistant to the director when she retired. She was the family matriarch and loved to entertain and cook for her family and friends.
She was very active in the Little River Ladies Association and split her time after retiring between Dallas and the cabin she loved on Little River in Arkansas.
Jane was a terrific cook — nothing fancy, just delicious.
She was very creative and well known for her hand-sewn custom dolls — especially the elaborate Santa Claus. She enjoyed doing needlepoint her entire life, an art she learned from her Aunt Mary Belle, who also took her to Little River the first time. Jane and her grandson, Hunter, had a special bond as they adored each other and
were shopping fools. She also enjoyed listening to him play his drums and practicing with his band in the garage.
Survivors include her two sons, John H. Lenington and wife Barbara of Campbell and James E. Lenington and wife Kathy of Dallas; her very precious grandson, Hunter Lenington of Campbell; and her sister, Carol Trigg of Texarkana, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. Lenington (“Big Al”); her sister, Anne Woodman; and, her brother, Sonny Greenwood.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave. 7th Floor., New York, NY 10001, 1-866-232-8484 or online at www.alzfdn.org
A memorial service celebrating her life will be Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. at Little River Club, Winthrop, Ark. (870-381-7834) in the clubhouse.
