GREENVILLE — Joan Strauss Glassman Nussbaum, 77, of Greenville died the evening of Oct. 3, 2013.  Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Temple Emanu-El Cemetery, 3430 Howell Street, Dallas, under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rabbi Kimberly Herzog Cohen will officiate.  

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nussbaum was born in Greenville on Sept. 18, 1936. She was the daughter of Thomas Charles and Alma Strauss Glassman. She married Julius Nussbaum on Dec. 27, 1955, in Dallas. She was a member of the Greenville High School class of 1954, where she was head cheerleader and voted Miss GHS her senior year.

Mrs. Nussbaum was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Dallas. She was very involved in several organizations in Greenville including the Garden Club, Junior Pallas Club, Bridge Club, Spade and Trowel Club, Greenville Entertainment Series and Dallas Symphony Series in Greenville. She held various positions in these clubs.

She is survived by her husband, Julius Nussbaum of Greenville; a son, Jay Nussbaum of Louisville, Ky.; daughter Melanie Weisenfeld and husband Howard of Westlake Village, Calif.; brother Sam Glassman and wife Janine of Fort Worth; and grandchildren Brett, Adam and Audrey Nussbaum and Allison and Jason Weisenfeld.  

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Harris Block, Lynn Goldstein, Alvin Golman, Jay Goltz, Jay Lorch, Dr. James Nicholson, Dr. Bob Deuell and Fred Weidmann.
