June Riggins

GREENVILLE — June Riggins slipped peacefully into heaven on April 18, 2013, after battling cancer the past two years.

She was born on June 19, 1941, in Camden, N.J., to William Alexander and Delberta Brown Willard who predeceased her. June married Clifford Woodruff Riggins on June 23, 1962, in Moorestown, N.J.

Within their first year of marriage they lost their jobs and quickly relocated to Greenville. June became a homemaker while Cliff worked for LTV/E-Systems/Raytheon for almost 33 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included sewing, bowling, gardening, traveling and enjoying her grandchildren.

For many years she made the grandchildren’s costumes for Halloween and school projects. She also enjoyed taking the grandchildren to movies, plays, shopping excursions, day trips and vacations.

June was also a fabulous cook and baked for vacation Bible school at Ridgecrest Baptist Church for many years. She also served diligently by helping with the Tools for School program for several years.

On the first Sunday of January 2010, she and Cliff joined Highland Terrace Baptist Church, and June was soon baptized on Feb. 7, 2010, with family and friends in attendance.

June loved being active in the Senior Adult Ministry, taking trips and attending fellowships and faithfully serving in so many different ways.

She was able to host a family reunion with her sister and family in her home in January. It was an awesome weekend!

June is survived by her husband of almost 51 years; son Todd Riggins; daughter Dawn and husband Ken Rodden and granddaughters Bayli Anne Rodden and Faith Gabriella Rodden, and grandson Jake Rodden, all of Greenville; granddaughter Sydney and husband Matthew Hudson of Tyler;  sister Susan Jones, niece Lori Anne Maddox and nephew Stephen Jones, all of Madison, Miss.; great-nephew Joe and Kourtney Maddox and son Benjamin of Indiana; and great-niece Taylor Suzanne Jones of Indiana.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the HTBC Building Fund, The American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.                          .

A memorial service will be at Highland Terrace Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Monday with Bro. Royce Litchfield officiating.

Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
