Walter Fleming Garland departed to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, July 21, 2013.
Walter (Walt) was born July 17, 1931, in Estes Park, Colo., to Ben and Carolyn Garland. At 5 years old they moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where the remainder of his childhood was spent.
He is survived by his wife, Millie Garland; his brother, George (Judy) Garland; three stepsons, Stephen (Michelle) Frazier, Timothy (Robin) Frazier, and Michael (Shelby) Frazier; one stepdaughter, Charylcie (Keith) Wilemon; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by Elizabeth Garland and his parents.
A graduate of Cedarville University and Grace Seminary, Walter taught in the public schools for a season, and then served as head administrator for several Christian private schools through the remainder of his career. He also served on the board of the Association of Christian Schools International, leading schools through accreditation.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes his memory to be honored with donations to the Denton Bible Church building or missions fund, or the Walter Fleming Garland Memorial Fund, supporting the DBC Young Guns program.
A visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mulkey Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust Street in Denton.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m, Wednesday in the chapel of Denton Bible Church with Pastor Tom Nelson officiating.
