Alva Johnson

GREENVILLE — Alva Johnson, 96, of Greenville passed away Dec. 16, 2012.

Services will be at 1 p.m., today, at Lynch Funeral Service chapel. Interment will follow at Simmons Cemetery in Greenville.

He was born in Leonard to R.J. and Josey Johnson on Feb. 4, 1916. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Cash.

Alva served our country in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a tailgunner, joining Dec. 8, 1941. He also served in the National Guard Service (1944) for three years stationed in Texas. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to Caddo Mills and started his career as an independent business man, owning cafes, grocery stores and an auto salvage business in Garland. Alva retired to Cash where he spent his next 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace Johnson of Greenville; daughter, Jaclyn Jendrek of Greenville; grandson, James Talmon of Greenville; four grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Wright of Royse City.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Boyd Johnson, Rube Johnson, Willard Johnson and John “Tutor”; and two sisters, Flora Hosiek and Nettie Burton.
