Rachel Sargent

Rachel Green Sargent, 91, of Caddo Mills, passed away on Jan. 11, 2014, at Legends Health Care.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Leon Goff and Keith Lambert officiating. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.

Rachel was born May 24, 1922, at Possum Trot (Pleasant Valley) to Wilson and Mable Venable Smith. She went to school there through the seventh grade and then attended Farmersville schools, where she graduated.  She has resided in Caddo Mills since 1948.

Rachel was married to R. T. Green in 1939, and they were married for 50 years. Clint Keele and Rachel were married in 1991 and were married for five years. Herman Sargent became her husband in 1997 and they enjoyed almost two years of marriage before he passed away.

She was a seamstress and was dedicated to the art of doll-making. She loved the magical intrigue of dolls dating to her childhood. She related the story of the special gift of doll furniture made by her mother’s loving hands for Rachel and her sister, Mildred.

Rachel remembered the tiniest details of her dolls and all of the ones she brought to life through her doll-making. Attention was always given to the most intricate details of special little doll dressings.

Rachel set high standards for her creations and the results were flawless. She loved her home and the special touches that made it hers.

Rachel faced many challenges in her life. She survived the loss of three husbands only to suffer from a stroke that resulted in impairment to her communication skills and some degree of independence.

She has attended Southside Church of Christ since 1974.

Rachel is survived by a daughter, Carol Duval l and husband John of Arlington; granddaughters, Amy Hodge and husband Ashley of Hurst and Lori Henegar and husband Anthony of Arlington, stepdaughters, Brenda Kardatzke of Perland, Krista McKee of Kenya, South Africa, and Kay Teasdale of Friendship; stepson, Kenny Sargent; special friend, Becky Burns of Greenville. Great-grandchildren are Hope Hodge, Hudson Hodge, Mason Henegar, Drew Henegar, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister, as well as her husbands.

Pallbearers will be Danny Burns, Donnie Johnson, Larry Johnson, Mike Kardatzke, Bill Smith, Max Smith, and Bobby Spradling.

Rachel’s strong spirit was the force that kept pushing her to be as good as she could be.  She graciously did a lot of good deeds for people throughout her full life.  She will be remembered and she will be missed.
