James Hamilton

GREENVILLE — James Hamilton, 91, of Greenville passed away June 20, 2013, at Hunt Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m Sunday in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Bill Shaddox officiating. Military graveside will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. 

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born Aug. 16, 1921, in Hunt County, James was the son of James T. and Magdelina Gale (Tresch) Hamilton. On March 31, 1945, in Caddo Mills, he married Mary Frances Weatherly. James served in the United States Army 101st Airborne as staff sergeant.

He served in the Battle of the Bulge and earned two Purple Hearts. He was a retired metal worker at Howmet Aluminum. He was a member of Salem-Kinser United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge –Scottish Rite.

His survivors include his son, Jimmy P Hamilton and wife Marcia of Greenville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter Carolyn Reeves, both in 2010, and nine brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Dan Ehrhart, Mike Hamilton, John Priest, James Slaughter, Scott Hicks, and Lance Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Graves, Clay Hamilton, Shawn Santana, William Lew, and Toby Reeves.

Memorials may be made to the Salem-Kinser United Methodist, 1315 Rees Street, Greenville, 75401 or Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital.
