Thomas Jennings Sr.

GREENVILLE — Thomas Ray  (Bokem) Jennings Sr. of Greenville died June 9, 2013.

He was born in Greenville on April 10, 1950, to Vealer Jennings Harris and Gomorri Willis. He married the late Laurette “Tootie” Jennings. From this union he is survived by two children, Thomas Ray Jennings II and Artie Jennings Howard (Knodney). From a previous marriage to Linda J. Jennings Farkye are three children — two sons, Timothy Ray Jennings and David A. Jennings, one daughter, Odessa E. Jennings and one stepson, Sidney Freeman, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Thomas was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Greenville and was a Christian. He graduated from Greenville Senior High and Texas Tech Trade School in Waco where he learned the trade of “butcher.” He joined the United States Army and was a disabled Vietnam veteran.

Surviving are seven siblings — six sisters, Mary Woldon, Jettie Brown, and Barbara Glenn of Greenville, Johnnie Barrett of McKinney, and Wonda Homes and Rose Willis of Dallas; one brother, Gaylon Wayne Jennings (Theresa) of Greenville; and a special nephew, Johnny Howard Willis (Rita).

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sisters, Erma Nell Miles and Celi Cozine; five brothers, Harvey D. Jennings Jr., Charles Herman Jennings, Homey Willis (Honey), Gladis Willis (Duge), and Elijah Willis; and one granddaughter, Aray Via Jackson.

Homegoing services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenville with Rev. Dezi Hite giving the eulogy. Internment will be at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Rising Star Church across from Grace & Mercy Funeral Home, 2120 Hemphill Street in Greenville, which is in charge of arrangements.
