Lorene Tarrant

A funeral service for Lorene  B. Tarrant, 95, of Campbell will be conducted at  First Baptist Church in Campbell at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Jimmy Tarrant, Rev. Keith Cogburn and Rev. Ron Ethridge officiating.

Interment will follow at Memoryland Cemetery in Greenville, with her grandsons, John Powell, Keith Tarrant, Jeff Tarrant, Jerry Denton Jr., Jason Atherton, Bradley Atherton and Michael Atherton, serving as pallbearers. 

Visitation will be one hour before the service (1 p.m.).

Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home of Sulphur Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Lorene B. Tarrant went home to be with her Lord and Savior the night of Feb. 16, 2014, at Briarcliff Health Center of Greenville.  

She was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Delta County, the daughter of F.M. Bacon and Mary (Wilson) Bacon. She married Uyless L. Tarrant in Greenville Nov. 7, 1934. He preceded her in death in 2004.

In addition to all her years as a wife, mother and homemaker, Lorene held jobs outside the home, including Henson Kickernick in Greenville for 30-plus years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Campbell for 65 years, where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, along with numerous Bible studies. She also served in the WMU, the PTA and was a room mother for each of her six children.

Survivors include two sons, Ray Tarrant and wife Nancy of Campbell and Jimmy Tarrant and wife Darlene of Greenville; four daughters, Sharlyn Powell Vaughn of Sulphur Springs, Mary Anderwald of Dallas, Rita Denton and husband Jerry of Lone Oak, and Barbara Atherton and husband Don of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Susan Powell Bennett; great-grandson Chris Bennett; sons-in-law Tommy Powell, Cecil Anderwald and Ray Vaughn; six brothers and eight sisters.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Campbell.

“Strength and dignity are her clothing and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”
