Frank Aikey

GREENVILLE — Francis Earl (Frank) Aikey, 74, a family man, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, of Greenville passed away Feb. 4, 2014, at the Hunt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at the chapel of Family Fellowship Church at 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Paul Blue officiating. A military graveside service with full honors will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. 

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Frank was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Mifflinburg, Pa., to Aaron Koch Aikey and Sabra Adeline Catherman. He married Elaine Downing on Aug. 1, 1980, in Wylie.

Frank served his country proudly for 20 years, in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with 82nd Aribourne and 173rd Airbourne Brigade. He served during the Vietnam War where he earned the Purple Heart Award.

He was a member of Family Fellowship. At age 70 he accepted the Lord into his heart; it is never too late. He was active in the American Legion, VFW, and DAV.

 He had a great love of the outdoors, where he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting.

Frank is survived by his wife, Elaine Aikey of Greenville; children Debra Thompson and husband Patrick of Southmayd, Texas, Terry Aikey of Casper, Wyo., Sandy Duhon and husband Richard of Emory, Daniel Aikey of Lewistown, Pa., Brenda Gomez and husband Robert of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lisa Williams and husband Mark of Sacramento, Calif., Carl Sutherby and wife Debbie of Blue Ridge, Greg Sutherby and wife Angela of Farmersville, and Becky Gonzalez and husband Gustavo of Arlington; brothers James William Aikey of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Guy M. Aikey and wife Shirley of Mifflinburg, Pa.; a sister, Helen Sauers of Mifflinburg, Pa.; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kenneth Aikey and Gordon Aikey; and a sister, Bertha Napp.
