Neal Thurman

Roy Neal Thurman, 76, of Seagoville died Feb. 3, 2014, at his home with his family at his side. 

Neal, as he was better known by his family and friends, was born Feb. 8, 1937, in the Hickory Creek Community in Hunt County to D.C. and Maggie M. Stephens Thurman. He married Betty Jean Bennett on June 22, 1956, in Hickory Creek. 

Neal was a member of Point View Baptist Church in Combine and was known for his skills as a carpenter. He worked at Dallas Baptist University for many years in the Maintenance Department, primarily building cabinets. He also served in the United States Army. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jean Thurman; son Terry Lynn Thurman of Dallas; two sisters, Rose Mary Montgomery and Debra Kay Thurman, both of Greenville; and brother Don Thurman of Celeste. 

He was preceded in death by both parents, 

A memorial service is set at 10 a.m. today at Point View Baptist Church in Combine with Bro. Mike Allcorn officiating. 

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. today in the R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home chapel in Wolfe City. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City. Bobby Bennett, David Bennett, Lee Roy Bennett, and William Potter will serve as pallbearers.
