Chuck Luttrell

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Charles Edward Luttrell, 74, husband of Marilyn C. Luttrell, went home to be with the Lord, Jan. 18, 2014.

Born in Greenville, Texas, he was the son of Mildred Currin Luttrell and the late Floyd Douglas Luttrell. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1963 with a Master’s Degree in Divinity and from the University of Florida in 1969 with a Master’s Degree in Physical Education.

Chuck taught physical education at Bob Jones University for more than 40 years. He loved his students and had a passion for teaching.

He founded Camp Spearhead for mentally and physically challenged children in 1968 and served as director for more than 30 years. During that time he also started the Special Olympics program in the Greenville area. Both organizations continue to thrive today as a result of this love and dedication.

Chuck was a member of Hampton Park Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are four children, Eddie Luttrell and his wife Lori, and their children, Edison and Ellis; Sharon Hart and her husband Tim, and their children, Noah, Titus, Silas, and Eli; Kim Sinclair and her husband Mike, and their children, Liam, Aidan, and Hope; Richie Luttrell; and a brother, Phil Luttrell and his wife, Lynn.

He was preceded in death by his father and a grandson, Rivers Hart.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Hampton Park Baptist Church, State Park Road, in Greenville, S.C. Private burial services will be at Graceland East Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 from 6:30  to 8 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary in Greenville, S.C., which is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Camp Spearhead, in care of Spearhead Legacy Group, 4806 Old Spartanburg Road, Taylors, S.C. 29687; or to Bob Jones University, Timothy Fund, 1700 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville, S.C. 29614.
