GREENVILLE — John Preston Crofford, born Oct. 8, 1935, passed from this life Feb. 7, 2014, at Medical Center of Plano.  He had been in and out of hospitals since 2010 and was “ready to meet his maker.”

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Layman and Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating. Burial was at Memoryland Memorial Park.

John graduated from Quitman High School and then joined the Army during the Korean War, serving his time based in Germany.

Upon his return he joined the Dallas Police Department, serving 28 years until his retirement in 1986. He worked many years at the Northwest Substation as a patrolman and then as sergeant. His latter years were served in the office of the Assistant Chief of Police.

John accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was 9 years old and was a member of the Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville and the most caring Sunday school class ever.
