Katherine Byers

GREENVILLE — Katherine Ann Byers, 70, of Merit passed away Aug. 8, 2013, at Medical City Hospital of Dallas. A memorial service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the St. William’s Catholic Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Father Paul Weinberger and Deacon Lee Davis will be officiating. 

Visitation will be Thursday at 6 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.

Katherine was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Dallas to Joseph B. Scotch Sr. and Maggie Teresa Digiglio. She married Franklin R. Byers on Sept. 3, 1970, in Grand Prairie.

She worked for Reliance Insurance Company in Dallas until 1989, moving to Merit in 1993. She worked for several years in the child nutrition department for Greenville I.S.D. until retiring in 2007. Katherine was a devoted member of St. William’s Catholic Church.

Katherine is survived by a son, Richard Wayne Byers of Wynnewood, Okla.; daughters Michelle Byers of Celeste and Teresa Espinoza and husband Tony of Merit; grandchildren Victoria Byers of Celeste and Mia Espinoza of Merit; and brothers and sisters-in-law Angelo and Martha Scotch of Denison, J.B. Scotch Jr. of Streetman, and Jerry and Patti Scotch of Rowlett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; newborn twin sister Theresa Dolores Scotch; her loving husband of 29 years; brothers Charles Vincent Scotch and Ernest Scotch, and sisters Mary Laberta Scotch, Rose Marie Blackburn, and Dee Kenyon.
