Charla Peters

GREENVILLE — Charla J. Peters, 69, of Greenville passed away July 7, 2013, in Dallas. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Dr. Doyle D. Summerall Jr., Rev. Rodney Williams, Rev. Royce Litchfield, Rev. Chester Lee and Rev. Coyle Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Lynch Funeral Service of Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

She was born May 22, 1944, in Shreveport, La., to C.J. Ketcham and Johnnie Taylor.

Charla was known for her trademark hair in a bun and Jesus pin. She was a true Aggie mom, a graduate of beauty school and at the age of 40 enrolled at the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service where she graduated as salutatorian and was the first woman to receive the “Coveted Bill Pierce Award” and was also Class Mother.

After she accepted Christ, she was very active in church activities including, but not limited to serving on various committees, vacation Bible school, Sunday school teacher and many Bible studies. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church. She was a director of Hands of Compassion at First Baptist Church of Greenville until she suffered a stroke on March 3, 2009.

She was a member of the Hunt County Appraisal Review Board. She was the first second-generation member of the Altrusa Club. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with her daughter and grandchildren.

She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She also helped her husband Newman with their cattle operation, Peters Beefmasters, and as a funeral director and embalmer when the couple owned and operated Peters Funeral Home. The couple also owned and operated Peters Car Wash together. She was a loving and Godly wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Charla is survived by her husband of 36 years, Newman Peters of Greenville; daughter Valerie Bell of Dallas; sons Kenneth N. Peters and wife Stacy and Joe E. Peters and wife Shellie of Greenville; brother Barry Ketcham of Austin; grandchildren Brittany N. Peters and fiancé Brian Sims of Greenville, J.D. Peters of Dallas, Ethan Duckworth of Greenville and Emily Rose Peters of Greenville; and great-grandchildren Kyson Wade of Greenville, Macy and McKenna Sims of Commerce, Hannah Sims of Greenville and Jaylee Sims of Alba.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Ketcham.

Pallbearers will be Mike Andreola, Jerri Phillips, Brad Pryor, Andrew Peters, Brian Sims, J.D. Peters, Lynn Cathy, Ethan Duckworth, J.C. Worley and Kyson Wade.

Special thanks to the girls at Buffalo Grill in Cash, staff of Tony’s Italian Kitchen, Hunt County Sheriff’s Department, A.M.R. and The Cash Fire Department and all who gave their comforting thoughts and prayers.
