William 'B.' King

GREENVILLE — William Bernice “B.” King, 86, of Greenville passed away April 15, 2012, in the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Nursing Home in Bonham.

He was born in Weir, Miss., on Dec. 13, 1925. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in July 1945. He was retired from the St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) Railroad after 45 years, where he was not absent or late for work a single time during his tenure.

B. was preceded in death by his parents, Terrell Coleman and Savannah Blaine King; his sister, Peggy King Julian; his second wife, Daphne Joynes King; his first wife, Faye Hovas King; and his son, William Bernice (Butch) King Jr.

He is survived by a daughter, Billye Faye King Veak and husband Len of Greenville; three stepchildren,  Robbin Joynes Biggerstaff of Frisco, Darri Joynes Cross of Austin, and Daniel Lee Joynes of Allen; three grandchildren, John Lee Hudiburgh of Lewisville and Jeffery Scott Ott and Holly King Taylor of Greenville; two stepgrandchildren, Gage Coleman Biggerstaff and Amber Joynes Pinkard; one great-grandson, Finley Patrick Hudiburgh; a brother-in-law, Billy Julian of Fairlie, four nieces and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

B. will be remembered in his later life for his love of home and family, including his two cats, and for his steady stream of visits to friends and family who were sick and in need.

Be it something as small as a newspaper, vegetables from the garden, or a bag of lemon drops, B. never went anywhere empty-handed!

Brief graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sonora Cemetery in Fairlie under the direction of R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City.

In lieu of flowers, sharing a short story or amusing anecdote of happy times with B. at the service will be most appreciated.
