Martha Mason

Martha Louise Mason, 87, died peacefully June 2, 2014.

She was born in Denison, on Nov. 14, 1926, to J.B. and Charlotte Williams of Greenville. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Jack C. Mason, on March 27, 1946. They had one son, Michael C. Mason.

Martha loved the water, water skiing and fishing; and she and Jack spent many joyful hours at their lake house on Lake Cypress Springs. Martha loved singing in the choir at Lee St. Methodist, later Westview United Methodist Church, and she sang many lovely solos.

She was a switchboard operator and teletype operator at Robin Hood Flour, and later the new accounts teller at First Greenville National Bank on the square in downtown Greenville. Gardening and flowers were a passion of Martha’s and she loved being outdoors.

Martha was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Jack; a brother, Jimmy; and a sister, Anna Elizabeth.

She is survived by her son, Mike and wife Mary of Garland; grandsons Jeff Mabeck and wife Katy of Corvallis, Ore., and John Mason and Robert Taylor, both of Garland; great-grandchildren Harper and Ames Mabeck; her brother, Jerry Williams and wife Diana; and nieces and nephews.

Martha’s family would like to thank the staff at The Family’s Choice in Richardson who gave Martha such amazing tender loving care for the last four years: Joy, Hilda, Molly, Pauline and the rest.

Visitation will be at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Westview United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Memoryland Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Del Oyler, Fred Blundell, Robert Taylor, Joe McQuade, Alex Hernandez and Larry Coggins. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Harvey and Hardy Parrott.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Westview United Methodist Church in Greenville or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
