David Wayne Simpson, 56, of Quinlan, passed away Sept. 9, 2013, in Dallas.
He was born Jan. 24, 1957, in Greenville to Rufus E. and Nina P. (Langford) Simpson.
Known by many colorful nicknames such as “Slinky” and “Zeke,” David dearly loved supporting his family and friends at the dirt track races.
A bigger John Wayne fan could not be found, and he spent many hours watching his favorite star in the movies.
David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years. One of his greatest accomplishments came on the football field when David tried out for America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys. He advanced several times as a punter and finally finished No. 3, narrowly missing a professional football career.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, brother-in-law Greg Malone and beloved grandson Dawson Medlock.
Those left to celebrate his life are parents R.E and Nina Pearl Simpson; daughter Jennifer Simpson; son Glenn Simpson and significant other Tina; siblings Deborah Malone O’Neal and husband Larry, Donna Bryant and husband Lawrence, Don Simpson, and Dina Guthery and husband Andy; grandchildren Brink, Xane, Jaxson, and Raven; nephews Cody, Wayne, Coy, Michael, and Ryan; and nieces Courtney, Chelsea, and Caitlyn. He is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends who will all miss him greatly.
David is walking hand in hand with his beloved Dawson, rejoicing to be together again.
Family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mr. Simpson’s honor to the ALS Association at ALSA.org .
A private family gathering will be scheduled at a later date.
