Christopher Faunce

Christopher Reed Faunce of Cumby went to be with his Savior on April 5, 2013. He was at home, surrounded by his wife, daughters, sons, grandchildren and other loved ones. He fought a two-year valiant battle against cancer with courage and determination. He found joy and humor at every opportunity, even up to the last days of his life.

Because of his loving spirit, in March he walked his daughter Amy down the aisle for her wedding!

Chris was born on June 19, 1943, in Boston, Mass., to his parents, Janet Raser Faunce and Wendell Winslow Faunce Jr. He has one sibling, Wendy Johnson of Weston, Vt.

As a child, he grew up in New England, and at 8 years old his family moved to Dallas, where he graduated from Highland Park High School.

Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy. He was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, Commendation Medal-Navy and the Vietnam Service Medal while serving in Vietnam.

He was a member of the distinguished Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 4, the “Black Knights.” The Squadron and its famous “Helicopter 66” rescued downed air pilots under hostile conditions.

He met Patricia Routson in Spokane, Wash., and they married on July 6, 1970. Chris and Patty have four daughters, Lari Eaton (Fred Eaton), Buffie Murphy (David Murphy), Amy Shaw (Kevin Shaw) and Christine Overstreet (Michael Overstreet). Chris and Patty have 21 grandchildren, Lari and Fred Eaton (Baton Rouge, La.), Christopher Spurgeon, Monty Spurgeon, Patrick Spurgeon, Aaron Eaton, Heather Eaton and Caleb Eaton, Buffie and David Murphy (Commerce), Roy Henly, Nolan Henly and Megan Murphy, Stephen Murphy, Ryan Murphy and Caitlyn Murphy, Amy and Kevin Shaw (Commerce), Alexandria Worley, Lacey Worley, Skyler Worley, Samuel Gossett, Betty Gossett, Camdyn Shaw, Cadye Shaw, and Cayson Shaw,  Christine and Michael Overstreet (Chillicothe), Mikayla Overstreet, Brianna Overstreet, and Garrett Overstreet.

Chris was a foreign car mechanic for 35 years, later using his troubleshooting skills to work for the United States Postal Service at the Dallas Bulk Mail Center in Dallas.

Chris loved tinkering in his shop, camping and boating, the Pacific Northwest, music of all genres, fly-fishing, gardening, HO trains/track design, car modeling, NASCAR races, carpentry, Apple gadgets, computers,  solitaire, Sudoku  and games with his family.

He enjoyed nature, clean pristine rivers and lakes, the smell of fresh cut wood, a campfire, the sound of rustling trees and ocean waves while at the Oregon coast, and exploring the mountains of the Northwest. He truly loved taking his family on road trips while pulling his RV.

Chris’ greatest passion in life was his relationship with Jesus. He was sincerely grateful for his wife and family, loving any opportunity to be near them.

He will be remembered with music in the background, a cup of coffee in his hand, a big smile on his face, and ready for big hugs, jokes, and conversation.

Chris and Patty Faunce are members of Family Fellowship of Greenville.

A celebration of Chris’ life will be held in the Family Fellowship’s chapel on Saturday at 10 a.m.
